For those who enjoy walking tours in nature, there is a Trail of Springs just 12 km from Kačerginė resort town. Youcan choose a route of 2.6 km, 3.3 km, 4 km, 4.5 km or 5 km long, and enjoy the pinewoods as you walk, Nemunas Riverside, and drink water from at least three natural springs on your way.
Health Centre located in Kačerginė uses this water for its curative properties. From olden times, pinewoods of Kačerginė were a favourite of holidaymakers for their undulating land, sandy slopes and subtle flora. Tracks weave through the hillocks and lead to most beautiful views and natural glades, where variation in elevation is up to 56 m.
The Trail of Springs has been tested by Nordic Walking enthusiasts and families. Enthusiasts enjoy this trail year-round, and seekers of extreme entertainment can organise night tours. The trees along the tracks have been covered with light-reflecting paint at a height of 2 meters specifically for these seekers so they could easily navigate at night. Sections of all routes have been equipped with benches and information boards, so your tour in the wildlife will be truly convenient.
Children especially enjoy counting impressive anthills beside the trail (almost 40 in total), discovering a badger's burrow or holes of other animals, and if you get lucky, you might spot a squirrel or even roe deer.
There is a state-protected Pyplių mound located at the farthermost route point. According to the legend and Lithuanian historians Zenonas Ivinskis and Kazimieras Paunksnis, Pilėnų Castle stood here, which was destroyed in 1336. Its defenders, the Lithuanians, not willing to surrender to the Crusaders, burned the Castle's belongings and killed themselves to avoid captivity.
The most convenient way to reach this place is by car. There is a free parking lot just 200 m from the beginning of the Trail. Since the Trail begins in the city, it is convenient to eat at a cafe or buy food in the nearby store.
